Vazhakkai Podimas with Tamarind

Vazhakkai Podimas with tamarind is a side dish that can be had with rice. In the previous post,i described traditional Vazhakkai podimas that is generally followed by many. However there are some minor variations across some places in south india. Here I am describing a variation that is followed in my house using soaked tamarind water along with specially prepared roasted powder (podi).


Raw banana          – 2 nos.(400 g)

Red chili                 – 2 nos.

Coriander seeds    – 1/2 tbsp

Mustard                 – 1  tsp

Urad dhal              – 1 tbsp

Besan dhal             – 1 tbsp

Tamarind               – 1/4 lemon size

Turmeric powder   – 1/4 tsp

Grated ginger        – 1 tbsp

Curry leaves           – 10 nos.

Hing ( Asafoetida)  – 1/2  tsp

Salt to taste

Oil                          -4 tsp

Cooking time         :15 min
