Tomato Dosa with curry leaf chutney

Tomato Dosa is a tasty as well as easy and quick to make breakfast. Currey leaves chutney forms a good combination for tomato dosa. The main ingredients for tomato dosa are tomatoes, raw rice. moong dal & beaten rice In order to prepare the batter rice and dal have to be soaked for 2 hours before grinding. There is no need for fermentation. The tomatoes used shall be Naatu thakali to give tangy taste. Any chutney can go well with tomato dosa but my preference is curry leaf chutney. The dosa is thin and soft and hence very ideal for lunch box packing.

Ingredients for Tomato dosa

Raw rice – 1 cup
Moong dal – 1/4 cup
Thick beaten rice – 1/4 cup
Sour tomato – 250 gms
Red chili – 3-5 nos
Hing – 1/2 tsp
Oil – 2 tsp

Ingredients for Curry leaves chutney

Tamarind 1 big lemon size
Red chili 3-4 nos.
Jaggery 1 tbsp
Curry leaves 1/4 cup
Hing 1/2 tsp

Procedure for Tomato dosa

Step 1

Soak raw rice, moong dal and thick beaten rice for 2 hours after rinsing 2 times.

Step 2

After 2 hours of soaking,strain water completely from rice

Step 3

Take 200 to 250 grams of sour tomatoes (Naatu thakkali) and chop into small pieces. Add 3-5 nos. of red chili according to your taste preference. Grind in a mixer grinder without adding water. Now tomato juice is ready.

Step 4

Add soaked rice and dal ingredients to tomato juice and grind the mixture to a smooth paste.

Step 5

Add salt and hing powder to ground batter and mix well. Add small quantity of water and adjust to dosa consistency. Now Tomato dosa batter is ready.

Step 6
Heat dosa pan . Add 1 tsp of oil. Grease the pan nicely. Take batter in a ladle and spread it on the pan to dosa thickness.Pour 2 tsp oil all around the edges.Keep the stove in medium flame. After 2-3 minutes, flip over to the other side. Pour 1 tsp of oil or as per your specifice requirement around the edges .Take out in a minute or two. Now hot tomato dosa is ready.

Procedure for curry leaf chutney

In a mixer jar, add soaked tamarind, red chili, rinsed and cleaned curry leaves, hing powder, salt and jaggery and grind the ingredients to a smooth paste. Now instant healthy curry leaf chutney is ready.

Serve it with hot and thin Tomato dosa.
