Narthangai Pachadi

Narthangai Pachadi (நார்த்தங்காய் பச்சடி) or citron pachadi is a healthy citrus fruit variety. It is a good appetizer. The raw bitter taste of citron is compensated by adding jaggery. This pachadi can be mixed with rice directly or as a add on with curd rice. The pachadi can be stored in refrigerator for about 10 days. It is a healthy substitute for pickles as it uses very little oil,salt,chili etc.


Narthangai (நார்த்தங்காய்) – 500 g
Tamarind -1 lemon size
Jaggery -1/4 cup heaped
Mustard -1 tsp
Hing -1/2 tsp
Fenugreek -1/2 tsp
Turmeric -1/4 tsp
Chili powder or chili/sambar powder mix – 2 tsp
Gingelly oil – 2 tbsp
Salt to taste
Preparation time : 05 min
Cooking time : 20 min
Makes : 1 3/4 cups
