In today’s trend , in many households, men and women work in offices and they find very little time to spend in the kitchen. However the desire to taste variety of snacks and food is increasing. This has given rise to many instant preparations in the market. But we can also make these instant recipes at home and keep them ready for use as per our need. When we do it at home, it is customized to our taste and style and so i would prefer making at home. My daughters also keep suggesting to come out with many instant varieties. So one such item that i propose today is the instant Rava idli mix and also preparation of Rava Idli using the instant mix.
Ingredients for Instant Rava Idli Ready Mix
Rava (Bansi)/ Sooji — 2 cup
Urad dhal — 2 tsp
Channa dhal — 2 tsp
Cashew nuts — 2 tsp
Mustard — 2 tsp
Green Chilli — 3 nos.
Curry leaves — 8-10 nos.
Hing — 1 tsp
Oil — 2 tbsp
Note: while roasting, ensure green chilli and curry leaves are roasted thoroughly without any moisture so that the mix can be stored for a long period in an air tight container. ( 3 months)
Ingredients for Rava Idli
Instant Rava Idli mix powder — 1 cup
Curd — 1 cup
Salt — to taste
Cooking soda — 1/4 tsp
Preparation time : 05 minutes
Cooking time : 15 minutes

Procedure for Instant Rava Idli Mix
The step by step procedure for preparation of the instant rava idli mix in text and image form is described below.
With medium flame, heat 2 tbsp oil in pan. Add 2 tsp of mustard and allow it to crackle. Then add urad dhal 2 tsp and channa dhal 2 tsp and roast till dhal color turns to golden brown.
Add 2 tsp of cashew nuts, hing 1 tsp, green chilli 3 nos. and 8-10 nos. of curry leaves. Saute.
Add 2cups Basi rava /Sooji. Mix well and roast for 3-4 minutes. Allow it to cool to room temperature. Store in dry air tight container.
Preparation of Rava Idli
The step by step procedure for preparation of rava idli using the instant mix is described below.
Take 1 cup instant rava mix in a pan. Add 1/4 tsp cooking soda,salt to taste, 1 cup curd. Mix the ingredients.Keep the batter aside for 30 minutes.
Check the batter. If it is thick, add 1-2 tbsp water and mix. The batter is now ready.
Pour rava idli batter into the idli moulds. Steam it for 7-8 minutes. Rava Idli is ready.
Transfer cooked rava idlis to a plate. Serve it with chutney.
