Wheat Dhokla -Healthy Breakfast Recipe

Wheat Dhokla is a  healthy breakfast/ snack recipe which can serve as a tasty filling breakfast. It is a steamed item and has several vegetables that contribute to its nutritional value. It is also easy to prepare.

Ingredients
Wheat flour                 — 1 cup
Moong dhal                — 1/4 cup
Sabodana                    — 2 tbsp ( Tamil “Javarisi”)
Spinach(Palak)             — 1/2 cup
Grated Carrot              — 1/4 cup
Hing                            — 1/4 tsp
Black pepper powder — 1 tsp
Baking soda                — 1/2 tsp
Salt                             — to taste
Butter milk                  — 1 1/4 cup
Mustard                      — 1 tsp
Urad dhal                    — 1 tbsp

Besan dhal                   — 1 tbsp

Red chilli                      — 2 nos

Curry leaves                 — 10 nos.

Onion (chopped)          – 2 nos.

Oil                                 — 2 tbsp

Preparation time         : 10 minutes

Cooking time               : 25 minutes

Step 1

Dry grind Sabodana 2 tbsp and Dry grind moong dhal 1/4 cup separately

Step 2

Take wheat flour 1 cup in a bowl and add ground sabodana powder.

Step 3

Wash ground moong dhal and add

Step 4

Add Hing  1/2 tsp and black pepper 1 tsp

Step 5

Add Spinach 1/2 cup, grated Carrot 1/4 cup and butter milk 1 1/4 cup and mix well.Keep aside for 15 min

Step 6

Add Salt to taste and baking soda 1/2 tsp and mix.

Step 7

Pour to a greased vessel and steam it for 12- 15 min.

Step 8

Check if cooked and cool for 15 min

Step 9

Transfer to a plate and cut into pieces.

Step 10

Pour oil 2 tbsp in medium flame and add Mustard 1 tsp. Wait for it to crackle.

Step 11

Add Urad dhal 1 tbsp, Besan dhal 1 tbsp, Red chilli 2 nos ,Curry leaves 10 nos. and Onion 2 nos. chopped. Stir till onion becomes soft.

Step 12

Add dhokla pieces. Saute till it becomes crisp. Dhokla will become crisp outside and soft inside. Then transfer to a plate. Healthy , tasty and hot Dhokla is ready for breakfast.
