Vazhakkai Podimas (வாழைக்காய் பொடிமாஸ்)

Vazhakkai Podimas (வாழைக்காய் பொடிமாஸ்) is a side dish made from raw banana that can be had with rice. The procedure described here is most commonly followed by most of the people  in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka although there some variations in some places.


Raw banana  (Vazhakkai)  – 2 nos.(400 g)

Mustard                 – 1  tsp

Urad dhal               – 1 tbsp

Besan dhal              – 1 tbsp

Green chili              – 4 nos.

Turmeric powder    – 1/4 tsp

Grated ginger        – 1 tbsp

Curry leaves            – 8 nos.

Hing ( Asafoetida)  – 1/2  tsp

Fresh coconut         – 1/4 cup

Lemon juice            – 1 tbsp

Salt to taste

Oil                           -3 tsp

Cooking time          : 15 minutes
