3 Healthy Vazhaithandu Recipes (3 Banana stem recipes)

Vazhaithandu is the stem of a banana tree that is widely used in cooking. Vazhaithandu recipes (Banana stem recipes)- In this post, i describe three healthy recipes prepared from Banana stem namely 1. Vazhaithandu Juice 2. Vazhaithandu curry 3.Vazhaithandu pachadi. Vazhaithandu(Banana stem ) is rich in fibres and nutrients that are good to maintain a healthy body. Drinking Vazhaithandu juice in empty stomach keeps your body cool and they are effective for detox.

Ingredients

Vazhaithandu Juice

Vazhaithandu (chopped) 1/4 cup

Curry leaf 6-7 nos.

Black pepper 6-7 nos.

Hing 1/4 tsp

Salt 1/4 tsp

Water 1/4 cup

Butter Milk 1/2 cup

Making time 5 min.

Makes 250 ml

Procedure-Vazhaithandu juice

Add all the ingredients in a mixie jar except butter milk and grind to paste. Strain it and add buttermilk. Healthy Vazhaithandu juice is ready

Ingredients- Vazhaithandu curry

Vazhaithandu (chopped) 1 cup

Moong dal 2 tbsp

Red chili 1  no.

Mustard 1/2 tsp

Chana dal 1 tsp

Urad dal 1 tsp

Hing 1/4 tsp

Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp

Grated coconut 2 tbsp

Oil 2 tsp

Salt 1 tsp

Cooking time 10 min

Makes 2 cups

Procedure for Vazhaithandu curry

Step 1

Heat oil in a pan. Add red chili,mustard,chana dal,urad dal. Saute till dal turns golden brown.

Step 2

Add chopped vazhaithandu and soaked moong dal, salt,turmeric powder,hing. Add water and cover with lid. Cook in low medium flame for 7-8 minutes.

Step 3

Add grated coconut. Mix well. Yummy Vazhaithandu curry or poriyal is ready

Ingredients for Vazhaithandu pachadi

Vazhaithandu (chopped) 1/4 cup

Grated Coconut 1/4 cup

Green chili 1  no.

Hing 1/4 tsp

Curd 1/2 cup

Salt 1/4 +1/2 tsp

Tempering

Mustard 1/2 tsp

Making time 12 min

Makes 1 cup

Procedure for Vazhaithandu pachadi

Steam chopped vazhaithandu. Grind all ingredients to paste and mix steamed vazhaithandu. Add curd and salt and mix well. Temper with mustard. Vazhaithandu pachadi is ready
