Dates and tamarind sweet chutney chutney is extensively used along with chaat items and samosas.
Tamarind -50 g
Dates(Deseeded) – 50 g
Jaggery – 50 g
Red chilli powder – 1 to 1 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds powder(dry roasted)- 2 tsp (Tamil “jeeragam”)
Fennel powder(dry roasted) – 2 tsp (Tamil “perum jeeragam)
Dry ginger powder – 1 tsp. ( Tamil “Sukku”)
Black salt – 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Cooking time :20 min.
Take tamarind 50 g, jaggery 50 g, de-seeded dates 50 g, Red chilli powder 1- 1 1/2 tsp in a cooker vessel.Add two cups of water. Pressure cook until 2 whistles.
Add to pressure cooked mixture the following : dry roasted cumin seed powder 2 tsp , Fennel powder 2 tsp (dry roasted), dry ginger powder 1 tsp,black salt 1 tsp and Salt to taste. Boil for 1 minute and strain the mixture.Strain the mixture and mash it with a ladle to make it smooth.
Add 1/2 cup water to mixture left in the strainer and grind. Strain again. Sweet chutney is ready. This can be safely store in Fridge for long period.
