This is another sundal variety made from pasipayiru (Green gram/ Moong). This is also a navratri special recipe that can be prepared easily and offered to those visiting your home . It can also be prepared on regular days as evening snack and is good for health being rich in protein content.
Pasi payiru (Whole green gram) – 1/4 cup
Coriander leaves – 1 tbsp
Green chilli – 1 no.
Hing(Asafoetida) – 1 small piece
Grated coconut – 1/2-1 tbsp.
Lemon Juice – 2 tsp
Mustard – 1/2 tsp
Urad dhal – 1/2 tsp
Salt – to taste
Oil – 1 tsp
Soaking time : 6 hours
Cooking time : 15 minutes
Note: There is another sundal variety Vellai Pattani ( Sundal whose procedure is similar to Pasipayiru sundal. Hence you can also make Vellai pattani sundal substituting white pattani in place of Pasi payiru and following the same procedures.
Soaking and precooking
Soak Pasi payiru (wholeGreen gram / moong) for 6 hours. Drain water after the soaking period. Add two cups of water to pasi payiru in a pan , 1 tsp salt and cook in medium flame for 7-8 minutes. Drain the water. Now pasi payiru is cooked.
Add 1 tbsp of coriander leaves , 1 no. green chilli in a mixie jar. Grind the ingredients to paste.
Add 1 tsp oil to a pan, then add mustard 1/2 tsp. Once mustard starts spluttering add urad dhal 1/2 tsp and roast. Add hing powder 1/4 tsp and mix.
Add coriander paste to the seasoned items, 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder.
Add cooked pasipayiru, grated coconut 1/2-1 tbsp and mix well. Add 2 tsp of lemon juice and mix. Pasi payiru sundal is ready.
