
Instant Tomato Rasam with Homemade instant rasam mix
Rasam is an integral part of South Indian meals and is generally taken along with rice. It makes a good appetizer and is also served as a starter in some restaurants.
In this post, I have explained how to make quick Instant Rasam in just 5min using the Instant Rasam Mix (detailed in the earlier blog).
Cooking time: 5min -6min
Makes: 1 liter of rasam
Ingredients:
- Tomatoes (medium size) – 2 nos.chopped
- Instant Rasam powder mix – 1/4 cup
- Water – 4 cups
- Salt – to taste (2 tsp)
Tempering
- Ghee – 1 tsp
- Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
- Curry leaves
Garnishing
- Coriander leaves, finely chopped
Procedure

Step 1:
Pour two cups of water in a bowl and allow it to boil. Once the water starts to boil, add the chopped tomatoes and further allow it to boil for two minutes.
Step 2:
Add instant Rasam powder and continue boiling for another 2-3 minutes.
Step 3:
Add salt and then add two more cups of water.Stir well. Do not allow the rasam to boil.
Step 4:
In a separate pan allow the mustard seeds to crackle in ghee. Then add the curry leaves to it.
Garnish the rasam with chopped coriander leaves, mustard seeds and curry leaves.
Step 5:
Switch off the stove. Tasty Rasam is ready to be served.
