How to wear Panchakacham
The wearing of panchakacham by brahmin men is a tradition to be followed during festive occasions and rituals. Many find it difficult to wear as they do not know the right technique. This blog post is aimed at teaching easy technique which can be followed . We have provided a step by step procedure in text as well as a video that can be understood easily and implemented.
Veshti ( Tamil) or dhoti for panchakacham attire comes in 8 , 9 and 10 muzham in the shops. One has to choose the size according to the height and the build. 8 muzham is for a smaller body frame while 10 muzham is for a bigger body frame.
Procedure:
Step 1:
Unfold the veshti to form 4 folds as shown.
Step 2:
Release it further to have two folds.
Step 3:
Hold the center of the veshti in the right hand.
Step 4:
Drape around equally on both sides with the center point at the spine. Now we have equal length on either side.
Step 5:
Move the right hand forward and left hand backward so that the length on right hand side is more than
left hand side by about 8-10 inches.
Step 6:
Now take the left hand side part to the right.
Step 7:
Take the right side part to the left. Tuck it in both the sides.
Step 8:
Now take the front side (outer part) of the veshti and form pleats as shown and tuck it in at the center.
Step 9:
Take the inner side of the veshti and form pleats with small folds. Once the pleat formation is complete take it to the backside through your legs and tuck it at the back. The border should be to your left as shown.
Step 10:
Now that back is tucked in , take the front side cloth again and form pleats with the border visible on the left. When the pleats are complete again tuck in the center. The panchakacham is now complete. Now wear the angavastram over the panchakacham as shown.
Step 11:
The front side view and back side view after completion of the wearing the attire is shown.
