How to prepare super quality Turmeric powder at home?

This post explains how to prepare pure turmeric powder at home. Turmeric is a very important spice that is used in all Indian cooking .Apart from that it is used in all religious and wedding functions as it is considered auspicious. Turmeric is a natural antiseptic and has strong anti bacterial properties. A mix of pepper and turmeric powder in hot milk is a home made remedy for throat ache. I always grow turmeric in my garden and use it to prepare turmeric powder that is pure and unadulterated.


Fresh Turmeric roots —- 500 grams

Preparation time 20 minutes

Cooking time 8 minutes

Makes 80 grams




Step 1

Rinse fresh turmeric roots by scrubbing thoroughly. Rinse 4-5 times so that the mud sticking to the roots can be thoroughly removed.

Step 2

Transfer to pressure cooker and add water. Pressure cook for 1 whistle

Step 3

Let it cool. Then cut the turmeric into small pieces. Coarsely grind by using blender or mixie to quicken the drying process.

Step 4

Keep it in sunlight for 2 days so that the turmeric dries completely

Step 5

Make it into fine powder in a flour mill or by using mixie.

Step 6

Fresh and pure homemade turmeric powder is ready for use. Store in a clean bottle.
